The Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has ban prostitution and its related activities in its Capital Tamale with immediate effect.
The move was necessitated after a Guinean national who tested positive for the deadly coronavirus escaped from the quarantine facility where she and nine others were being kept.
A statement issued and signed by the Regional Minister who is also Chairman of the Regional Security Council Salifu Sa-eed, cautioned that anyone caught in the act will be dealt with.
“Those involved in the practice and its related activities within the region are therefore advised to seize any engagement in those acts, forthwith. Those who defy this directive will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the Laws of the Republic,” the statement said.
According to the regional minister, 10 cases the region has recorded so far included prostitutes whose activities posses danger to the fight against the Covid-19.
